Scientific Panel

Our professionally trained and experienced scientific researchers.

Jarrow Formulas’ Scientific Panel is comprised of five core members who are professionally trained and have wide experience in scientific research and nutrition. The panel ensures the scientific integrity of the Jarrow products by providing guidance on product research and development. It also ensures that Jarrow Formulas remains up-to-date on the latest emerging science. It supports internal and external education on nutrition and science while it closely monitors FDA and FTC regulations to ensure consumer safety and regulatory compliance of products.

Scientific Panel Members

Dallas Clouatre, Ph.D.

Dallas Clouatre, Ph.D. earned his A.B. from Stanford and his Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley. A Fellow of the American College of Nutrition, he is a prominent industry consultant and a published author as well as a principle in Glykon Technologies Group, LLC, an intellectual property holding company. He is an Associate Editor of TotalHelath magazine and a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of Nutritional Outlook magazine and Recent Patents on Cardiovascular Drug Discovery. He is the author of numerous books. Recent publications include “Grape Seed Extract” in the Encyclopedia Of Dietary Supplements (2nd edition, 2010), “Tocotrienols in Vitamin E: Hype or Science?” and “Vitamin E – Natural vs. Synthetic” in Tocotrienols: Vitamin E Beyond Tocopherols (2009), “Kava Kava: Examining New Reports of Toxicity” in Toxicology Letters (2004) and Anti-Fat Nutrients (4th edition 2004). Dr. Clouatre’s primary research interests are the components of the metabolic syndrome / Syndrome X.

Brad Douglass, Ph.D.

Brad J. Douglass earned B.S. degrees in Psychobiology and Computer Science, an M.S. in Regulatory Science and a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Southern California. His past research has focused on the discovery of drugs, the delivery of therapeutics to the brain, and the production of pharmaceuticals. He is currently an active speaker and opinion leader in the area of dietary supplements, nutraceuticals and preventive medicine. Dr. Douglass is also particularly interested in how our health and consciousness affect what we introduce into our bodies and vice versa. He often contemplates how our actions, as individuals and as a global society, reflect our true thoughts about wellness and disease.

Kaori Shimazaki Dadgostar, Ph.D.

Kaori Shimazaki Dadgostar, PhD, is Jarrow Formulas’ technical specialist and provides technical information, education and training, and direction for the development, design, and analytical methodology of product formulations as well as pre-clinical and clinical studies. Dr. Dadgostar has extensive experience in project and laboratory management, quality assurance and control, pre-clinical and clinical studies, and technical development in both academia and pharmaceutical companies. Pharmaceutical companies with which Dr. Dadgostar has worked in the past include SDG, Inc., Diasome Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Hepasome Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Oncosome Pharmaceuticals, Inc., IDIOM Pharmaceuticals, Inc., and L3 Pharmaceuticals, Inc. She has earned her B.S. in Biology and Ph.D. in Molecular Biology at the University of California, Los Angeles. Her multi-disciplinary collaborations as well as her work in cancer research, protein/peptide/small molecule chemistry, antibody engineering, and imaging have led to numerous accepted publications, grants, and patents.

Stacey J. Bell, D.Sc., R.D.

Dr. Bell earned her doctorate in nutrition from Boston University, and is a registered dietitian. She served on the faculty of Harvard Medical School, where she conducted clinical studies on many aspects on nutrition. For her doctoral work, Dr. Bell looked at the effect of fish oil immune function in patients with HIV infection. Dr. Bell has published over 100 scientific articles, eight books, and 21 book chapters on nutrition. Her latest book is, ESSENTIAL FOODS: Eat Healthy, Lose Weight, and Live Longer, which gives sound information to consumers on how to eat. She recently completed editing the book, Prescription for Nutritional Healing, by the late Phyllis Balch. Dr. Bell has presented more than 100 lectures on nutrition around the world to her peers and the lay public. She currently serves on the scientific boards of the California Raisin Marketing Board, Milk Specialties Global, and Bay State Milling. Formerly she was on the Board of Directors of Wild Oats, when it was sold to Whole Foods.

Thomas A. Tompkins, Ph.D.

Research Director, Institut Rosell Inc., Lallemand Human Nutrition

Dr. Tompkins completed his doctorate studies in Biochemistry at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. After post-doctoral studies at the University of Guelph, he joined Lallemand Inc. in December 1995 as the R&D Supervisor at their research facilities located in the Biotechnology Research Institute in Montreal, Quebec. In 1999, Dr. Tompkins became the Director of Research at Institut Rosell Inc., the Human Nutrition and Health Division of Lallemand. At the Institut Rosell he has established a strong scientific programme to evaluate the safety and mechanisms of action of probiotics and their effect on the integrity of the intestinal mucosa. He is currently leading the genomic and transcriptomic programme on probiotic microbes at Rosell and coordinating several groups of investigators to evaluate the impact of microbes on the brain-gut axis and other host-response systems. He has published numerous scientific articles and has given a number of international presentations for continuing medical education courses. A select list of recent publications is provided below.

He is a member of the American Gastroenterology Association (AGA), the Canadian Association of Gastroenterologists (CAG), the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada (CCFC) and the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA). He reviews for several journals such as Applied & Environmental Microbiology, Journal of Clinical Microbiology and Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology.
